Health Physics Mission:

  • Ensure radioactive material and radiation producing devices are used safely and in accordance with the hospital's Nuclear Regulatory Commission License and Army Radiation Authorization.
  • Ensure occupational exposures are maintained "As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) 
  • Review the training and experience of proposed authorized users to ensure their qualifications are sufficient to enable them to perform their duties safely and IAW regulations and license.
  • Review and approve, consistent with the limitations of applicable regulations, license, authorizations and the ALARA philosophy, all requests to use radioactive material within the hospital and requests to amend the license or authorizations

Western Regional Army Medical Center Support

  • Serves as the subject matter expert for all radiological issues in the region
  • Review and approve, consistent with the limitations of applicable regulations, all new shielding designs and modifications for all x-ray facilities.
  • Provide radiation safety x-ray machine survey support to all Medical, Dental and Veterinarian Clinics.
