About

Madigan’s Department of Emergency Medicine provides quality, compassionate care to critically ill and and injured military beneficiaries. As Madigan’s only 24-7 patient care portal, we are here when you need us.

We specialize in caring for the full range of urgent and life-threatening medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric, and psychiatric conditions. As a Level II trauma center and partner in the Tacoma Trauma Trust, Madigan also accepts civilian trauma from the nearby I-5 corridor. Our staff consists entirely of board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Physicians, ensuring that the care that you receive will be outstanding and evidence-based.

In addition to our patient care services, the Department of Emergency Medicine serves as a training site for one of the most successful Emergency Medicine residencies in the nation. We also host fellowships in Emergency Ultrasound, Wilderness and Austere Medicine, and the Emergency Medicine fellowship for Physician Assistants.

Urgent Care

For patients with conditions requiring acute but non-emergency care, we also host a minor illness clinic which is staffed by Physicians and Physician Assistants and is open after business hours to serve your needs.

Family members and retirees are now allowed two urgent care visits without an authorization per fiscal year. Active Duty Service Members (ADSMs) enrolled in TRICARE Prime are not eligible for this program. Patients are encouraged to call the Nurse Advice Line; 1-800-874-2273, option 1 to get an authorized referral to an urgent care clinic. By doing this, patients will not use one of their "referral-free" two urgent care visits for the fiscal year.
