Members of the Grace Congregation Gospel Choir sing at the King Celebration Jan. 16.

Madigan observed Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday with a ceremony on Jan. 16 in Letterman Auditorium. Guest speaker Lt. Col. Chinette George gave inspirational comments to the more than 200 attendees. "The true meaning of Martin Luther King's birthday celebration is the meaning of the day," George passionately remarked. "The meaning lies within each of us." A nurse by trade, George serves as Madigan's chief of critical nursing. "The internal conviction of Dr. King inspired me," George said. "It inspired me to realize that the dream was for all in the struggle for equality...and though the man was killed, the spirit of the dream continues." The ceremony included several songs sung by the Grace Congregation Gospel Choir from JBLM Lewis-North. The theme of this year's Dr. Martin Luther King observance was: Remember; Celebrate; Act!
